Title: Integrated Management of Forest Fires in Lebanon

Amount: 2,6 million US dollars
Duration: 24 months
Targeted areas: Sensitive Forest Areas in Lebanon.
Project Background:
The project makes part of the national campaign launched by the Prime Minister and the Lebanese Government following the destructive fires that occured in 2007. It is funded by Lebanon Recovery Funds.
The project responds to the urgent need to work on short-medium and long term interventions to limit the impact of forest fires in Lebanon.
Purpose and Objectives:
Contribute to the protection and restoration of forest resources in Lebanon through developing and implementing a national management plan of forest fires fighting.
Results:
1. Review and develop Lebanon forest laws.
2. Conduct a forest fire impact assessment at the ecological, social and economic levels.
3. Implement preventive measures against forest fires in sensitive forest areas in Lebanon
4. Restoration of lands that were exposed to forest fires.
5. Provide equipment and manual tools to fight forest fires
6. Encourage local communities’ initiatives in forest protection through a Small Grant Program.
