Environmental Education 2008

The 2007-2008 academic year was a continuation in AFDC’s objective to increase awareness among schools and academic institutions, build capacities of children, youth, teachers and parents as well as to engage students and teachers in environmental education and awareness activities.

A unique theme of the year was outdoor environmental education activities that were conducted in school fairs, the garden show and at the MFDCL center in Ramlieh. The schools and students that participated came from all over Lebanon and included a group of hearing challenged students from IRAP (Institut de reeducation audio-phonetique). The activities included planting seeds, reforestation, and environmental education games such as spiderweb, rappel and caterpillar race. Furthermore, AFDC coordinated a conflict resolution workshop for students from three public secondary schools that excelled in their completion of the Lebanon Map of Environmental Issues completed in the 2006-2007 academic year. A closing ceremony at UNESCO palace recognized all the participating schools for their hard work and awarded trophies, a copy of the map to all the schools as well as $1000 to each of the top three selected schools
