Management & Sustainable Development of Forest Areas in Andkit- Akkar in North Lebanon.

This project, implemented by the Association for Forests, Development and Conservation (AFDC) in partnership with WWW-Italia, is funded by the Italian Cooperation through ROSS II program. As the title implies, the project is being implemented in Andket- Akkar in North Lebanon, and its objective is to contribute to the development of the forestry sector in the area through the implementation of pioneer initiatives toward greater sustainability through the improvement of forest resources management practices. Activities in the project include the establishment of a multipurpose forestry centre, a fire pond for use during fire fighting endeavors, and fire breaks. Other activities in the project include: land restoration, purchase of an excavator for local use, trainings for volunteers on subjects such as ecotourism, forest fire fighting and sustainable management, production of Andket eco-tourism map and other public awareness event. The project duration is 8 months and is expected to close in December 2009.
